Thank you for visiting my website! My name is Mingchao Sun (孫明超). I am a Junior Associate Professor at the School of Political Science and Economics, Tokai University.

I am an applied economist with a broad interest in empirical research, particularly in the intersection of social capital, migration, and transportation. My work uses diverse data sources—including surveys, government statistics, spatial data, and IC card records—to empirically analyze human behavior and social structures.

My core research direction centers around social capital. I explore how social capital influences various socioeconomic outcomes, and how it functions differently across populations such as immigrants, ethnic minorities, women, and job changers. I also work on developing psychological and behavioral approaches to measure social capital more effectively.

Some of my current projects include the spatial assimilation of immigrants in Japan, the macroeconomic impacts of remittance inflows in developing countries, and the role of social capital in labor markets. My regional focus spans countries such as China, Japan, Vietnam, Pakistan, and Timor-Leste. I have also collaborated on projects related to conflict, sanitation, and child health.

In teaching, I have experience instructing courses in introductory economics, public economics, information economics, and econometrics.

I also have a web page in Japanese.
